Beginning of year tasks
1. Acquaint yourself with faculty (try to remember names and faces)
2. Sort through mail accumulated during summer.
3. Process any books or magazines received over the summer
4. Schedule library orientation for 6th graders (usually through LA dept.)
5. Talk with teachers about textbooks-- schedule barcoding, or checkout with teachers.
6. When checking out textbooks, make sure you assign textbook to class section.
7. Arrange bulletin boards
8. Find out amount of budget (make tentative plans)
9. Make spreadsheet for expenditures
10. Determine supplies needed and either order from Demco or pick up at office.
11. Set up calendar in Destiny.
12. Meet with new teachers and tell them about library resources (Safari Montage, pathfinders, Brytewave app with ebooks and audio books
End of Year Tasks
1. Pay attention to dates given by secretaries for ordering supplies for next year. Make list and order on time.
2. Ask Principal what procedure is followed for library fines still owed at the end of the year.
3. Make sure calendar reflects adequate time for checking in books and creating end of year fines. We usually allow 2 1/2 to 3 weeks.
4. During the 2nd week of May, print list of faculty checkouts and distribute to teachers.
5. Also, during 2nd week of May, print fine and overdue book notices for students, include price of overdues.
6. 2nd week of May, print lists of textbooks checked out for teachers and distribute to teachers.
7. Arrange now, or a little later, for check in of textbooks for those classes who have textbooks checked out (usually math).
8. Make sure all equipment is checked in or accounted for. Have teachers tell you if they want to keep equipment or videos in their rooms. Adjust due dates, accordingly.
9. If possible, this is a good time to do inventory. Some people prefer to split it up and do sections all year long.
10. Make statistical report to give to district library coordinator.
11. Last week of school or before, take care of surplussed text books. Add surplus text books to the Surplus Management System. You will need to create login.
12. Make sure to remove any surplussed barcoded textbooks copies from the Destiny catalog.

- Reports -> Library -> Title and Copy List -> Select by Title (Leave From and To boxes blank) >Click on pull-down menu -> Select: “Show titles with lost copies.” Then, “Run the Report”
- Have student aides check shelves for lost books
- Any lost books that are found should be checked in
- Decide which lost books should be replaced and note for future ordering
14. Last week, take down bulletin boards, clean and prepare for next year.
